What happens to my rating if I take a break or sustain an injury?
If a player does not play for an extended period of time, whether by choice or due to injury, the initial matches after the player's return take on more significance in the weighting of the algorithm. Some players in this situation may be prone to short term volatility until the entry of more matches result in a stabilized rating.
Player ratings take into account matches from the prior 45 months, therefore a player will maintain a rating for a long period of dormancy. Upon a player's return to competition, the most recent matches will hold the most significance to their current rating.
